Meena Menon is an activist and a researcher. She studied political science at Arts College, Osmania University, Andhra Pradesh and she has a human rights diploma from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), The Hague. She is senior Consultant at the Indian Action Aid Programme CiRiC (Citizens Rights Collective) working on urban poverty, entitlement, urban planning, housing, equitable, sustainable cities. She was Senior Associate, country coordinator at Focus on the Global Southon, Research Director at Zee Telefilms and Vice President at GKSS (Mill Workers Struggle Committee), Mumbai. She is active with the Girni Kamgar Sangharsh Samiti and Rojgar Hakka Samiti - organisations working in the textile area in Mumbai. She received the British Council’s Charles Wallace Scholarship in 2004 and was Visiting Fellow, Wolfson College, Cambridge University, UK. She is co-author of One Hundred Years, One Hundred Voices - The Mill Workers of Girangaon - An Oral History (2004). She is currently working on a book on the student movements of the 1970s. She has also taken a new assignment as Executive Director of a newly formed South Institute for Public Policy and Action - SIPPA- based in Hyderabad.
